Captains
Captains can lead marches alone or alongside your hero. Each provides unique bonuses. You can have multiple captains active simultaneously, each leading their own march or providing passive city bonuses.
Cap at level 300: Carter, Doria, and Dustan all stop giving bonus gains at level 300 — do not waste shards past that point.
Starter Captains
Unlocked automatically after the tutorial.
Aydae
- Bonus: Guardsmen Strength & Health
- Best for: Defending your city, early monster hunting, Guardsmen-heavy marches
- Notes: Solid early-game choice while building toward premium combat captains
Logos
- Bonus: Specialists Strength & Health
- Best for: Specialist-heavy armies, Silver farming — always use Logos when Silver farming
Tengel
- Bonus: March Speed (+Level ÷ 2)%, March Range (+Level ÷ 5)%
- At level 500: +250% march speed, +100% range
- Best for: Long-distance gathering, rapid reinforcements, hit-and-run attacks
- Avoid: Combat — Tengel provides zero combat bonus
Academy Captains
Unlocked through Academy research or Summoning Circle.
Carter — Crypts (Essential)
- Bonus: Crypt exploration efficiency + Tar capacity
- Level cap for bonus: 300 — stop levelling at 300
- Best for: Every crypt run — no other captain offers crypt bonuses
- Gear: Equip Crypt-specific gear on Carter
Stror — Gathering
- Bonus: Resource gathering speed + army carrying capacity
- Best for: All gathering marches — pair with Spearmen for maximum haul
- Critical: Bonuses only apply when Stror leads the march
Dustan — Conquest Points (Essential)
- Bonus: Conquest Points bonus (passive)
- Level cap for bonus: 300
- Best for: All CP activities — Shadow City, PvP, CP runs
- How to unlock: Academy research using Conquest Points
- Notes: Expensive to unlock, but dramatically increases all future CP earnings. Essential for PvP players and Clash for the Throne.
Doria — Valor Points
- Bonus: Valor Points bonus (passive city bonus — must remain in city, not marching)
- Level cap for bonus: 300
- Best for: All activities that generate Valor Points
- Tip: Pair with Dustan for combined VP + CP passive bonuses
Ingrid — Monster Troops
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Monster-type troops
- Best for: Monster-heavy stacking marches in Epic Monster events
- Notes: Only valuable if you have significant Monster troop investment; for mixed armies use Cleopatra
Brann — Engineer Corps
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Engineers
- Best for: Engineer-heavy armies, citadel/fort sieges
Ye Ho-Sung — Melee
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Melee troops
- Best for: Melee-heavy armies, heroic monster levels where Melee units are optimal
- Premium alternative: Leonidas
Bernard — Ranged
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Ranged troops
- Best for: Ranged-heavy armies
- Premium alternative: Minamoto
Lucius — Mounted
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Mounted troops
- Best for: Cavalry-focused armies
- Premium alternative: Alexander
Brunhild — Flying
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Flying troops
- Best for: Flying-heavy armies
- Premium alternative: Wu Zetian
Proscope — Scouting
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Scouts + Scout Capacity & Speed
- Best for: Scouting operations and intelligence gathering
Xi Guiying — Ranged & Scouts
- Bonus: Strength of Flying troops (dual bonus — unique for Academy type)
- Unlock: Academy research + Summoning Circle
- Best for: Flying combat, CP Runs
Premium Captains
Obtained via Summoning Circle, events, or special activities.
Beowulf — Best Combat Captain (Seasonal Kingdom)
- Bonus: Strength AND Health of entire army (dual bonus)
- Unlock: Seasonal Kingdom event — requires reaching Guardsmen Level 6 within 3 months
- Best for: Everything — endgame all-purpose combat captain
- Notes: One of the hardest captains to obtain. If you have him, use him for all combat.
Cleopatra — Second Best Combat
- Bonus: Strength of entire army
- Best for: All combat — PvP, Epic Monsters, mixed armies
- Notes: If you have Beowulf use him; Cleopatra is the next best for pure damage output
Sofia — Army Health
- Bonus: Health of entire army
- Best for: Defensive battles, tough content — pairs well with Cleopatra
- Premium version of: No academy equivalent (Ramses II is the event-exclusive upgrade)
Ramses II — Army Health (Event Exclusive)
- Bonus: Health of entire army (higher stats than Sofia)
- Unlock: Exclusively through Pharaoh’s Bazaar event
- Best for: Defensive battles, difficult combat, heroic monster encounters
Hercules — Epic Monsters Only (Triumphal Challenge)
- Bonus: Strength of entire army vs Epic Monsters ONLY
- Unlock: Purchasing fragments from the Triumphal Challenge shop
- Critical: Bonuses apply exclusively to Epic Monsters. Does NOT work vs regular monsters or players.
- Best for: Chimera, Basilisk, Briareus, Doomsday, and all Epic Monster events
- Do not use Hercules for PvP or regular monster hunting — use Cleopatra or Beowulf instead
Skadi — Guardsmen (Seasonal Kingdom)
- Bonus: Health AND Strength of Guardsmen
- Unlock: Same Seasonal Kingdom event as Beowulf
- Notes: One of the rarest captains in the game — obtained alongside Beowulf
- Best for: Guardsmen-heavy marches, Epic Monster events
Heimdall — Army Strength (Seasonal Kingdom 5)
- Bonus: Army Strength across all troop types
- Unlock: Seasonal Kingdom 5 (requires multiple seasons, fragment collection)
- Best for: Epic Monsters, PvP, Seasonal Kingdom, raids
- Notes: Long-term investment; maximum potential at 7 stars
Amanitore — Group Activities
- Bonus: Strength AND Health of army in group activities only
- Applies to: Group marches, raids, reinforcements
- Does NOT apply: Solo marches
- Best for: Raids, CP runs (requires 1+ other player), heroic monsters, group events
- Tip: Pair with Dustan for maximum raid efficiency. Essential for clans doing regular raids.
Leonidas — Melee (Premium)
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Melee troops
- Best for: Melee-heavy armies, heroic monster levels where Melee dominates
- Academy alternative: Ye Ho-Sung
Alexander — Mounted (Premium)
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Mounted troops
- Best for: Mounted-heavy armies, mobile warfare
- Academy alternative: Lucius
Minamoto — Ranged (Premium)
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Ranged troops
- Best for: Ranged-heavy armies
- Academy alternative: Bernard
Wu Zetian — Flying (Premium)
- Bonus: Strength & Health of Flying troops
- Best for: Flying-heavy armies — significantly increases flying health, may require ratio adjustments in stacking
- Academy alternative: Brunhild
Helen — Food & Training Speed (Economy)
- Bonus: Food Production Speed + Troop Training Speed
- Type: Passive city bonus — must be active in city, not deployed on march
- Best for: Mass troop training, preventing food deficits, post-battle rebuilding, maintaining G8/G9 armies
- Unlock: Union Triumphal Event (primary), Summoning Circle, limited events
- Tip: Activate Helen + equip Honored Ruler armor → begin troop training → swap after training starts. Part of the economy trio: Helen (training) + Aurora (construction) + Farhad (research)
Aurora — Construction Speed (Economy)
- Bonus: Construction speed
- Type: Passive city bonus — must be active in city
- Best for: City development and long construction projects
- Notes: Does NOT need to lead marches — just keep her in a captain slot in your city
Farhad — Research Speed (Economy)
- Bonus: Research speed
- Type: Passive city bonus — must be active in city
- Best for: All Academy research — significant time savings on long projects
- Strategy: Keep stationed during research phases; switch to combat captains for military operations
