Units & Troops

Total Battle has five categories of troops, each with different strengths, costs, and roles in combat and events.

Troop Tiers

Troops are trained in tiers. Tier notation by category:

  • Guardsmen: G1–G9
  • Specialists: S1–S9
  • Engineer Corps: C1–C9
  • Monsters: M3–M9

Higher tiers are significantly stronger and cost proportionally more to train and revive. Always train the highest tier available — lower tiers are primarily useful as sacrifice layers in stacking builds.

Monster Sub-types

Monsters come in four sub-types, each with different traits:

  • Beast
  • Elemental
  • Giant
  • Dragon

Combat Trait System

Each unit has three traits that determine its vulnerabilities and offensive advantages against specific unit classifications: Melee, Mounted, Ranged, Flying. Check each unit’s traits to understand matchups — it is more nuanced than a simple rock-paper-scissors system.

Gathering Troops

For resource gathering on the World Map, load capacity matters more than combat power.

The gathering-relevant unit names and their categories:

Unit NameCategoryLoad Capacity
SpearmenGuardsmen (Infantry)250 per unit
RidersEngineer Corps (Mounted)200 per unit
ArchersSpecialists (Ranged)100 per unit

Use Spearmen (infantry/Guardsmen type) for gathering marches whenever possible.

Troop Revival

All troops that die can be revived in the Hospital using Silver and Gold. Key factors affecting revival cost:

  • Temple level — higher Temple level reduces revival cost significantly
  • Novice Boost — ~10× cheaper revival during early-game boost period
  • Captain bonuses — some captains reduce revival costs
  • Event buffs — occasional event-wide revival discounts

Training Priority

  1. Train your highest available tier first
  2. Keep a reserve of lower tiers for stacking sacrifice layers (see Combat & Battles)
  3. Keep Mercenaries stocked with Epic Monster Hunters for event participation
